If you don't make enough to retire on in the first year don't be surprised - learn from your mistakes and adapt , think of your web work as a hobby - OK so you've registered as self employed - but the costs even if you have little success is minimal so there is almost no risk , there are few businesses that can offer these potential rewards with virtually zero risk to your capital.

LEGAL STUFF

Stay legal - many newbie webmasters genuinely think everything on the web is FREE if you can view it why not copy it ? This is a dangerous misconception - it will probably lead to you being banned from the search engines , or worse - so do not plagerise from other sites - you could end up with your site being shut down or worse . You can of course find similar sites to you and see what they are doing and do your own version ie: use the basic idea.

TAXES

If you are currently not self employed this is no problem - You can create your free web site now - and build it , but when you start making some profit you will need to register as self employed to pay NI and income tax (you can be exempt if you are on low earnings - which is likely in the early stages , but will need to apply for the exemption certificate)
