Tutorial 1: Getting Visitors To Your Site = Profit!

Traffic = Profit so your website will only make you money if you get lots and lots of

visitors (100s of UV - unique visitors a day should be what you are aiming at)

Unless you are blessed with an established business (or lots of friends) your site will be void of visitors , this section will cover several of the tried and test ways of building up levels of traffic

Social Engineering Sites

Join Myspace , Bebo and Facebook , and add links to your website on your profile page

Free Search Engine Traffic

Some websites rely entirely on the search engines and never pay a penny for advertising , they get there by creating search engine OPTIMISED web pages

Everyone can benefit to an extent , but to make major income you have to be persistent , you need to follow these steps

(a) Convince lots of people to link to you (this is called link popularity) .

If some webmaster links to you without you linking to them you score higher with the search engines than if you exchange links , so always try to get incoming links - a good place to try is the Yahoo Directory , browse the directory for sites that are relevant to yours . The more links you get the better (you will need tens or hundreds of links ideally) , If you have no sites linking the search engines won't find you at all , let alone index your site - but don't worry we have already included you in our ad9 directory so that's a good start!

Allow several weeks for your site to get indexed (this can be much shorter if you get lots of links), but don't wait - have faith in the search engines! and keep working at your site

When contacting a web site owner to exchange links you should provide your own link (you need to tell them your URL ie: website address , an anchor title , and a description) , the anchor title should be a keyphrase that you want to get ranked well on

Example Link Exchange : One of our anchor titles is "Free Sites" our description is "We offer free web sites with income potential" , so sites we have contacted are linking to us with Free Sites We offer free web sites with income potential

(b) Create pages optimised to phrases that describe your offering , in our case we use "free sites" the main anchor link on the home page , we also have many pages each optimised with it's own set of keywords - eg we have page called "money making" which is optimised for - you guessed it - "money making" , this involves ensuring you inlclude the keyphrase several times on your site . 1st include it in the metatags - keywords, description and page title - then use it in the body of you page using <h1> header and maybe <h2>/<h3> too , also use it in links - but don't overdo it - and make sure your page is readable - it can be a fine line between creating an optimised site that the search engines like , and humans can still read easily!

NB : If you're wondering what the "metatags" are , these are standard first liners at the top of every page , if you right click this page and click "view source" you will see our metatags for this page

Try webposition 4
it's free for 30 days

TIP : Learn from your competitors - search Google for a site that is similar to yours - view it's source - do not copy any of it - but if you look at the metags and where the keyphrases it will give you an indication of what you need to do to get a good ranking . TIP2 : Get Google toolbar it has handy back link checker so you can click on your competitor's site and see who is linking to them (you can then try and convince them to link to you) . Google toolbar also has a PR tool - PR ranges from 0 to 8 (google themselves) sites with the highest PR linking are generally the best - but are harder to get! We recommend WebPosition as an excellent tool even if you don't buy it the initial free 30 day trial will provide you with all you need to know

That concludes this tutorial , to summarise :

  1. You need to get people to link to you
  2. You need to create pages with quality content
  3. You need to optimise your pages
  4. Get Webposition 4 , and use it as a learning aid

Tutorial 3 : Paypal E-Shops - Using Your FREE Site To Sell A Few Products & Services

Our FREE sites are easy to integrate with Paypals range of merchant services , and are ideal for small stores of say 1-15 products . They will be very fast too as all pages are static - no database delays (the search facility will also be instant).

Paypal can be used to create Buy Now buttons (to purchase single products) , subscription buttons (for regularly payments - ideal for service providers , donation buttons (useful for charitys / non-profit organisations), and shopping carts for allowing multiple product purchases

THE BASIC STEPS (For By Now Buttons)

NB Buy now buttons are for selling single products if you want to have a shopping cart where shoppers add multiple products you need to use the Shopping cart tool - also available after logging on to your Paypal account

1. First open a Paypal Merchant Account (there is no cost in this , as Paypal only charges you a competitive fee based on the transaction values of your sales) if you have not already opened an account with Paypal you can do so now by clicking this banner

Sign up for PayPal and start accepting credit card payments instantly.

2. Now ... grab your code (you can create the code as we did in the example below using the Paypal buy now wizard , it all takes seconds , alternatively to be even quicker ... just select and copy the code below and change the Price , Product Name , and Email Address)

Example Code For A Buy Now Link

The above code is for a simple Buy Now Button (after highlighting press cntrl-c to copy to clipboard , ready for inserting into your website)

Advanced buy now buttons

Paypal button wizards allow you to add weight based and flat rate shipping , option pull down buttons (you might use for allowing your customer to choose a colour or size when ordering their product)

If you need this extra functionality - Log on to your Paypal account , and use the Wizard to create the button code

Integrating The Code Into Your Free Website

Simply highlight (and cut the above code - use cntrl-V buttons after highlighting

Now simply log on to your website , select the web page that you want to place the buy now link

Place a product image , then plenty of text describing your product in LAYOUT mode , then switch to HTML mode in your editor and scroll down to the end of the page

Copy the code (ctrl-v keys)

SAVE

that's it !

LAYOUT TIP

Table formatting - You might be happy with adding the buy now button directly under your product details - but if you want better control of the layout you may want to consider placing your product in a table. Here is an example of a Paypal product placed in a table table example , you are welcome to use it as a template for your own eshopping pages.

X-Cart: ecommerce shopping cart software.

Our free websites work great for small stores and should be all you ever need . However should you need to sell an unlimited number of products , and use other payment providers , you will probably need a database driven shopping cart , and one of the easiest (we should know we've tried them all) is X-Cart .

Tutorial 4 : Livechat - Free customer service chat !

We have used Zazachat for our own support see exmaple here - it's fully compatible with our sites and is FREE to try on your website click link below then sign up and grab the few lines of code and insert it in HTML mode into any page .

Live Chat, Live Help and Live Support System for Websites

Live chat also provides statistics in real time of visitors to your site , and you can upgrade for advanced features like help desk and desktop alerter . The free version however is excellent if you are just starting the website.

Important Note After copy the code into your page only save once - there appears to be a minor bug in the editor each time you save it copies this code so you end up with multiple live chat image links (so it might be worth keeping a backup before doing this) ... If you have any problems we will gladly install it for you
